Hot & Cold, Yea it's Friday

Stay tuned tomorrow:  Tonight's Bunco is a Sleepover Theme (pictures tomorrow)

If you follow me on FB you know that I have been struggling with sleep issues.  Last night, was not a good night!  That's why I'm up at 3:43 am, working on this blog. :(  Tonight was one of those nights where my body was tired, but my brain was going full force.  Here was one of my thoughts:

Hot & Cold.....
Last night I was cold.  I had on my Old Navy sleep pants (as seen in my Christmas pictures), long-sleeved t-shirt, hoodie and socks.  I got in bed that way and also threw on a heavy throw over my regular bedding.  Well, if you are a women who is close to my age, you know that wasn't bound to last long. As I awoke for the first time around 1:00, I thought of the song Hot & Cold by Katy Perry.  You can't always approve of her, her lyrics, or her videos, but you can't deny that the songs are catchy and fun. (Hence lyrics stuck in my head!)Let's see if I can succeed in getting them stuck in your head too. I will end with some correlations to my life!

Lyrics to "Hot & Cold"

You change your mind like a girl changes clothes
Yeah, you change your mind like a girl I would know
And you always think, always speak cryptically
I should know that you're no good for me

'Cause you're hot and you're cold
You're yes and you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down

You're wrong when it's right
You're black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We hug, we make up

You, you don't really wanna stay, no
But you, you don't really wanna go, oh

'Cause you're hot and you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down

We used to be just like twins, so in sync
The same energy now's a
dead batteryUsed to laugh 'bout nothing, now you're plain boring
I should know that you're not gonna change

'Cause you're hot and you're cold
You're yes and you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down

These aren't the complete lyrics and as I read this; the part that really relates to me is the refrain.  Last night, I was cold then I was hot.  I sometimes feel like my life is a roller coaster, going from high, happy days to low, sad ones.  Yesterday, was a "low, cold" day.  I guess we all have days like that!  The first week back to school after a long vacation is always tiring.  Believe it or not, you actually forget how busy you are.  That's why I always say, "I'm jumping back on the hamster wheel!"  :0)  Here's to a better day!  It is Friday you know!!!!

Funny True Story:

Even though I didn't sleep well, I actually went to sleep a little early.  My husband travels a lot with work and he had gotten home and I had gone on to bed because I was so dead.  I woke up around 11:30, half asleep and this dark figure is standing by my bed, and I quietly squeal.   (you know how you can't talk when your asleep?) I think this had something to do with the Cops episode in my neighborhood the other night. I don't know, I said something too & I was so asleep, I don't even know what it was.  I have to ask him this morning! :0)  I had tried to post a link to the story.  If you go to the Leaf Chronicle on-line, you should be able to find the story in the archive.  It happened Tuesday, so it was probably in the paper Wednesday.

Treasures, possessions, materialism, distractions.......

Matthew 6:19-34 was highlighted in my daily Bible reading.   19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Thoughts:  I have never thought of myself as a very materialistic person, but it's not hard for me to feel guilty when I hear a sermon about it. (guilt is easy for me :0))  But going to Honduras, really opened my eyes to how "materialistic" we all are in the United States.  When we are in Honduras, we go on a media fast.  (no TV, computers, video games, newspapers, etc.)  That means that our whole day is spent in fellowship, devotion and service.  We are totally free of distractions and you wouldn't believe what an amazing experience it is!!!!  Not only that, we live in a place that is very nice as far as Honduran standards, but adequate in American standards.  We share rooms with 2-4 other people.  We have 1 shower per 4-10 people.  The power often fails, the water can't be drunk, the showers can be cold, the list goes on....Do we complain....maybe, a little.......do we love every minute of it?.......YES!  You may just be saying to yourself, "Patty is some crazy religious fanatic who loves being a missionary."  Well, you can ask anyone who knows me, that's not me at all.  Before I went, I didn't know if I could handle it.  90% of the people who go want to go back the next year.

Well, I got a little side-tracked.....Honduras made me see the extravagances & waste in my life.  It made me reevaluate everything I ate, spent time on, or spent money on.  What are the treasures you lay up on Earth?  Is is fashion, is it money, career, video games, a relationship, technology, Facebook (me??), jewelry, sports, television, etc.?  None of these things are bad in and of themselves...it has to do with our focus, time and energy.  Anything that keeps us from our relationship with God becomes a treasure laid up on Earth.  The point about my experiences in Honduras is this.....without the worldly distractions in Honduras, it was so easy to be a servant and  focus on doing God's work.  Realistically though, we all have jobs, families, problems that we must deal with in  our day to day life....I guess it's all about finding the perfect balance.

Signing off for today, I'm taking the night off.  I hope this is okay, I didn't edit too closely! :0)

  2. I have lived the hot /cold thing too! Hot flashes and then this month it's been cold flashes!

This time of life has been hard for me! I seem to just feel others pain, joy, struggles--whatever it is--I feel it more keenly and it wears out my heart. I am praying and seeking God more and more---

    Have a great weekend!

  4. Patty says she quietly squealed. Riiiiiight. I walked in the room and she stirs a little then sets up in bed staring in my direction (and it was! pitch black). She says something like who's there and I say it's me. She screamed, loudly. The dog came trotting up stairs to "see what was the matter".
