Happy Father's Day!!!

June 19th, Happy Father's day!!!!

We got to skype with my older son in Afghanistan this morning.  We have only been able to do that a few times since he has been gone.

The picture kind of turned out strange.

Nick and I drove to Murray after church so that we could eat lunch with his dad. We got him to meet us at a great Thai restaurant in Murray. It's called Jasmine Thai. We love it! You could even get the lunch special on the weekend which included soup and salad. Can you say good deal?????

The food was excellent and didn't disappoint.  We enjoyed
visiting with our family.  I was able to run by and visit my mom.  I was also able to take more items to Peddlers' Mall.

I got back in time to go to church tonight.  We are having a summer series on Being Steadfast.  We had an excellent lesson on forgiveness by a visiting minister.  One of the great points that I took away is this:  We often say, "They don't deserve to be forgiven."  That's the whole point forgiveness isn't deserved.

This is what happened just as I was pulling into my driveway.

Thoughts on Father's Day:
What are traits that make a good father?

patient?

supportive?
loving?
attentive?
funny?
fun?
kind?

hard-working?

morally upright?
These were just a few traits that I thought of on the spur of the moment.

I found a few examples of fathers, both fictional and real.  Even the fictional characters weren't perfect fathers.  Fathers being human aren't ever perfect.

Isn't it interesting that God uses the relationship of father to describe His relationship to us?  God gives us the perfect example as a father.  He shows our love to us in many ways.

He is patient to forgive us, he shows us unconditional love (even though he may not be happy with our actions), he is compassionate, he knows us intimately and is always there for us.  He also gave the ultimate sacrifice of his son because He loved us so much and doesn't want any of us to be lost.

(Matthew 7:7-11) "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. {8} For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. {9} "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? {10} Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? {11} If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Ephesians 1:3-6) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. {4} For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love {5} he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-- {6} to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
